Explore Mellow Farming's Regenerative Practices

The Powerful Simplicity Of Real Wealth Ranching

Real wealth is about family, joy, community and healthy land and animals

Wow, what an incredible two-day event we just wrapped up at Mellow Farm! We dove into some simple yet powerful ways to manage animals and land – techniques that don’t just improve the land but also help increase stocking rates, boost profits, and, most importantly, bring back the joy of farming. If you’re thinking, “This is just another take on what’s already out there,” let me tell you, it’s not. This is a completely different approach to successful animal farming.

We had the absolute privilege of hosting Jaime Elizondo, the founder of Real Wealth Ranching, along with his wife, Bety. Jaime has spent over 30 years as a dairy and beef farmer, developing a unique system that brings together soil science, agronomy, financial management, and hands-on farming experience. He’s not just a theorist – he’s built and run financially successful farms himself, and that’s exactly the kind of knowledge so many of us need.

I first discovered Jaime’s work about six years ago through a YouTube video of one of his workshops. Everything he said in that video resonated with me. At the time, I thought, “I’d love to have him as a coach,” but he hadn’t started his online courses yet. What really caught my attention was his ability to increase stocking rates on the same amount of land. If you’ve got 100 acres and are trying to make money raising cattle, the numbers often don’t add up using conventional methods. But Jaime’s approach gave me hope that we could actually reach our financial goals with our small farm.

The workshop brought together farmers from all over the country, with properties ranging from 40 acres to over 3,000 acres. Despite the differences in land size, everyone shared the same passion: improving their land and creating a lasting legacy for future generations.

What set this workshop apart was the deep dive into real-world solutions. We explored successful examples, learned the latest science on how pastures and microbes build long-lived carbon, and discovered how animal management plays a crucial role. But the real magic happened in the discussions. Jaime challenged us with questions like, “How would nature do it?” – whether we were talking about land management, animal selection, nutrition, or husbandry. It made us realise that we might not understand nature as well as we thought! But through these conversations, everything started to click.

Top learnings for me:

  • Managing the total grazing on your property in 3 sections
  • Fatty root exudates create long-lived carbon in your soil and this only happens when you stockpile
  • How to select the best bulls
  • Know what your operation costs you

By the end of the two days, new friendships had formed, and no one left without a clear idea of the first steps they needed to take to transform their farms.

Every farmer needs a solid toolbox of methods and techniques to build resilience and success in their unique farming environment. The 4 Pillars of Real Wealth Ranching are an absolute must-have in that toolbox. As Jaime always says, “Real wealth is much more than money. It’s about family, joy, community, and healthy land and animals.”

Exciting news! Jaime will be back in September, so keep an eye on our farm website for updates on his itinerary and travel plans in Australia.

Who Is Jaime Elizondo?

Who Is Jaime Elizondo?

RESHAPING THE FUTURE OF FARMING

Meet Jaime Elizondo, a visionary in regenerative agriculture and the founder of Real Wealth Ranching. As an Agronomist Engineer with expertise in beef and dairy cattle, his journey began in 1990 when he purchased his first irrigated farm. Jaime is revolutionising sustainable farming by blending innovative grazing techniques like Total Grazing with advanced soil science. His approach isn’t just about healthier pastures and livestock, it’s about reshaping the future of farming.

Jaime’s philosophy is simple yet revolutionary – by working with nature, not against it, farmers can create thriving, self-sustaining ecosystems. Jaime’s methods focus on building long-lived soil carbon, maximising pasture productivity, and ensuring thriving livestock performance – all while making farming more profitable. Farmers and ranchers are discovering that with his techniques, sustainability and profitability can truly go hand in hand.

What Sets Jaime Apart

Jaime’s principles are rooted in practical strategies:

  1. Total Grazing: This technique minimises selective grazing, boosts forage use, and greatly improves leaf to stem ratio. By mimicking nature, Jaime enhances soil microbial health and carbon sequestration, creating more resilient ecosystems.
  2. Regenerative Agriculture: He emphasises rebuilding long-lived soil carbon and driving natural carbon cycles. His methods improve plant biodiversity and density, water infiltration, and soil fertility, ensuring productivity for future generations.
  3. Profitability Through Grass Management: Jaime’s strategies reduce costs, increase stocking rates, and keep livestock healthy – all while improving soil structure and fertility.
  4. Adapted Livestock Genetics: Jaime promotes raising animals tailored to local environments, ensuring resilience, efficiency, and optimal productivity.

Bridging Science and Practice

Through workshops, online courses, and community initiatives, Jaime empowers ranchers and farmers with tools to double stocking rates, reduce hay dependency, and regenerate their land – all with less effort. His methods prove that ecological health and financial success are not just possible – they’re inevitable.

Are you ready to transform your farm? If you are, then Join Jaime Elizondo and be part of a movement that’s shaping agriculture for the better and reimagining the future of agriculture – because healthier soils, thriving ecosystems, and more profitable farms can coexist. As a student of his, I can truly say his techniques have changed our farms soil health and diverse plant growth has increased exponentially.

Jaime will be in Australia for a few weeks in February & March 2025 doing presentations and workshops.  Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from a true thinker and successful grazier and dairyman.
